The English corridor has been buzzing about business, following the Dragons’ Den expert workshops on Friday 13th January and Tuesday 17th January.

We were delighted to welcome business associates from Exeter College, James Pryce Tractors, Heathcoat Fabrics, Petroc College and independent advisors, who all gave their time to run workshops for the whole year 8 cohort.

The students learned about Marketing and Product knowledge, Product Design, Performance and Presentation skills and how to pitch for business.

Students now have several weeks to apply the knowledge gained in the workshops to their advertising campaign, ready to pitch for business in the Dragons’ Den finals on 10th and 11th February, when we will welcome the Dragons back to judge the teams.

We have had some success again this year in the Brunner Creative Writing Competition:

Emily Peters' "well-crafted" entry has been awarded 'Commended' and she will receive £5.

They also considered these entries for the shortlist and made the following comments:

Joe Williams  - 'amusing'

Lauren King - 'a solid, consistent plot'

Sam Britton -  'ambitious'

Mr Williams would like to praise his Year 11 English group for their summer homework tasks – they have been working really hard over the holiday.

Some of their creative responses to the poems show a deep understanding of the texts and they have put in considerable effort.

Eight of our KS3 students performed exceptionally well in the Tiverton Literary Festival story writing competition.

Out of 975 entries, the following students were honoured at the prize giving on Saturday.

All have had their stories, based on the title 'Kings and Queens', published in a festival compilation.
