External Candidates (sometimes called Private Candidates) are exam candidates who are not school students. This may be because they are mature learners or because they are home educated. Whether they are learning independently or through a supported distance learning course they will need an approved Exam Delivery Centre at which to sit their exams.
Here at Tiverton High School we do accept some External Candidates provided that they live in the locality and they wish to be examined in subjects that the school already teaches as part of its Key Stage 4 Curriculum.
The school does make a charge for this service.
If you need to find an Exam Delivery Centre at which to take an exam or exams then please contact the School's Exams Manager in the first instance to see if your candidacy meets the school's criteria. Further discussions can then take place to ascertain whether we can assist and the costs that would be involved.
Our current fee schedule can be found via the Downloads section. The document is called: External Candidate Fees & Requirements ECFver3.Jul15 It includes an outline of the basic requirements of the school when it accepts an External candidate. You can also find a list of other local schools who accept External candidates in the Downloads section.
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) requires that all students sitting written exams be supplied with a copy of the rules and regulations governing candidate conduct and that document will be supplied but it can also be accessed here.
