In blistering heat our 13 finalists performed to the whole of year 9 on Thursday 18th July. With two panels of students and staff – including this year’s special guest – composer, singer, producer Mr Rob Gubby year 9 demonstrated just how talented they really are. The standard of musicianship was extremely high and of course the quality of songs produced by the finalists was of an exceptional standard.
The marking proved to be very difficult this year due to the exceptionally high standard. However, in a competition there has to be a winner and this year’s winners were Fruit Salad with a catchy melody, structure and harmonic progression with an engaging and funny song about fruit! Well done to Joe Collins, Che Dedames, Laura Emery, Renee Bond and Ellie Hunter. On the day sadly Che was unable to make the performance so a big thank you to Shea Holland who stepped in to play the drums. All students received a brand new Ukelele from the department.
The final scores for all bands were;
1st – Fruit Salad – 85
2nd - Eyes Alight – 83
3rd – The Inmates – 82
4th – Oscar’s Retreat – 79
5th – Onyx – 75
6th – KLCT + Infinity – 62
7th – Driftwood – 61
8th – You Me @ 7 + J-LLO – 59
9th – Lost Noise – 49
Well done to all Year 9 for a fantastic competition.
