Positive ‘Unacceptable’ assemblies delivered across school

Last week all year groups attended a series of specialist assemblies delivered by colleagues from Narrative Alchemy, an applied theatre-in-education company dedicated to using theatre and film to address complex social issues.

‘Unacceptable’ is a show targeted at examining sexism, sexual harassment and sexual violence.  The assembly supports the Personal Development lessons taking part during tutor sessions to support understanding and raise awareness of what they are, what creates them and what can be done to expose, and respond to, the harmful attitudes that perpetuate harassment and gender injustice.

The dynamic and thought-provoking assembly used scenarios to explore sexism, sexual harassment and sexual violence and reinforced that young people should not be bystanders, giving them tools and information on how to speak up if they witness anything.

It has been great to hear our students using some of the language shown within the assemblies since they were shown and the positive feedback from both staff and students about the performances.

“Very educational and informative.” Thomas K
“It made me question lots of different things.” Mathew M
“Inspirational.” Lidia G
“It threw a spotlight on important social issues affecting our society today” Francesca K
