Local round of National Badminton Championship

Yesterday, two KS3 teams entered the ‘Local Round’ of the National Badminton Champs.
A competition with four other teams, it was action packed with minimal time to rest and regroup.
Each match consisted of five games; a combination of 2 singles and 3 doubles games provided the ultimate test.

Tiverton 1 – Patrick S, Malakai M, Max M and Keith F
Pre match nerves proved to be the barrier to success in Round 1, falling to defeat against Blundell’s 1. If they had their time again, I am confident the result would be much different.
However, bouncebackability was the name of game in their 2nd match against Clyst Vale 2, as they completed the clean sweep, winning 5-0. Patrick S providing the confidence boost the team needed with an opening win in the singles.
Blundell’s 2 (arguably stronger than Blundells 1) proved a stern test in Match 3, going down to a 4-1 defeat. Max and Keith finding their feet with a strong win the doubles.
Match 4 was against the overall winners of the round, Clyst Vale 1, which proved to be the best quality match that our boys produced, narrowly loosing 3-2, with a 5 point difference, after taking a 2-0 lead in the singles. Malakai, calm and composed as always taking us to the 2-0 lead.

Tiverton 2 – Finlay B, Koby D, Oliver H, Taylor S.
Up against Clyst Vale 1 in their first match, spirits were high knowing this was going to be their toughest match. All games were close and highly competitive, despite the records book showing a 5-0 loss.
A victory followed over Clyst Vale 2. Finlay and Koby displayed greater power than their opponents to dictate the play in their singles matches.
Oliver and Taylor worked tirelessly against Blundell’s 2 in the doubles to claim a victory in a 4-1 defeat, whilst Finley and Koby had their opponents diving all around the court in a display of great shot variation to claim a victory against Blundell’s one.

All eight boys were excellent in their RESPECTFUL behaviour, took great OWNERSHIP of their performance and demonstrated a UNITED front as a team.

Next week is the turn of the KS4 boys, who will take on Clyst Vale, ISCA and St Luke’s.
