What a fantastic experience our future Year 7s had on the first day of their transition to Tiverton High School.
We welcomed 33 teams of Year 6 pupils from several local primary schools to showcase their team working ability to navigate around Tiverton, visiting different primary schools and check points to complete an 8-mile course.
The Year 6s showed amazing resilience and drive to complete the course. The students were supported by some of Tiverton High School’s Year 9 students at various checkpoints around the course. We were lucky in having Mrs Hamidullah and Mrs Jones join us out along the course to meet the Year 6s and experience the Maggie Fasey Challenge.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to mix and find out more about Mrs Hamidullah and Mrs Jones and the work they do at THS. Once the students had completed the challenge, they had the opportunity to do a wide range of sport activities run by our Year 9s. Our students encouraged and ran the activities to the Year 6s with great confidence and enthusiasm.
We had a very special visitor at Manley Bridge and the astro turf. Mick Fasey, husband of Maggie Fasey, visited us to see how the Year 6s were getting on with their challenge. Maggie played a pivotal role in creating this challenge and put an awful lot of love into making the event legendary for Year 6 students to experience. It was lovely to see Mick supporting all of the students.
A massive thank you goes to Mrs Gould for organising this year’s event. She put in a lot of work to make it a huge success. Thank you to Mr Thorne, Mr Heeney, Mrs Bennett & Mr Morrell for all of the organising on the astro turf. Thank you to Mr Puzey, Mrs Jones, Mrs Hamidullah for their work on the check points.
