A great innings – cricket at Sandford

On Tuesday 23rd May, our Year 7 & 8 boys softball cricket team had a wonderful day at Sandford Cricket Club competing against four other schools.

For some of our students, it was the first time they had played a competitive cricket game and boy, did they do well! The format was one similar to the 100; each player bowled an over of 5 balls and you could earn 5 runs for every opponent we got out.  Our first game was against Okehampton, and we narrowly got beaten by 13 runs.

By game two, the boys knew what to expect and we made some tactical changes with our bowling order.  Some fantastic 4s and great bowling earned us a draw against QE. QE were there overall winners so this was a great result.

Game 3, THS v St Peter’s.  Lots of dot balls from the boys piled the pressure on to earn two late wickets earning a well-deserved victory.  Our final game was a close encounter with Isca.  They boys unfortunately lost by 7 runs.  The team were fantastic, both with the bat and ball, great teamwork and camaraderie.  Well done to the team.  Mrs Bamber gained lots of experience umpiring, a thoroughly enjoyable day for all!
