Tiverton High School students at a STEM event with their final piece

Girls in STEM. THS Finish Victorious!

Last Friday we were pleased to have been invited to join 9 other Devon schools at The Maynard School for a Girls in STEM event. All teams were challenged with engineering an automated electric vehicle. After spending the day constructing and programming, they were then challenged to give a presentation to the other students and STEM ambassadors who attended, before testing their vehicles along a track.

Both Tiverton teams showed incredible STEM knowledge, resilience and excellent team working skills. Their electric vehicles both managed to travel the required 10 m but did not turn around the obstacles, a challenge not managed by any of the teams.

Each of our students represented Tiverton High School impeccably and to top the day off, Team 6 came out victorious, beating 20 other teams from The Maynard, St James, Clyst Vale, St Peter’s, West Exe, Honiton, Cullompton, Exmouth, and Cranbrook. Well done Connie P, Elsie M, Ciara W, Katie D, and Willow C. Team 1 also did a fantastic job and impressed the STEM ambassadors, great work Ezster T, Luka R, Francesca K, Fleur D and Kimmy S.

Overall, a brilliant day celebrating women in STEM, hopefully inspiring the 100 young people who attended to pursue a career in STEM in the future. All the girls said that the event was engaging, challenging and great for team building.
Thank you to The Maynard School for having us at yet another fantastic Girls in STEM event.
