This is a letter sent to parents and carers on 26th April 2023.
I am writing to confirm the provision that will be available for your child during the forthcoming days of strike action tomorrow, 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.
Vulnerable and key worker students
Please complete the booking form HERE to ensure a place for your child. They will be supported in their learning by colleagues and will receive a blend of live and independent learning tasks. They should arrive in school no later than 8:55am.
Students in years 7-9 will be working from home.
Teachers who are not striking have been asked to prepare lessons that contain a blend of live teaching and independent tasks. For your child to benefit from these lessons please ensure that they log into Google classrooms at the start of each lesson beginning with lesson 1 at 9am. Please ask your child to follow their normal timetable for Thursday week B.
If your child has a lesson where their teacher is on strike, a range of independent tasks can be completed. Please click the link below where you will find information on independent learning available to students.
Arrangements for students working remotely at home – Tiverton High School
Students in year 10
All year 10 students should arrive in school at 9:55am and come directly to the Assembly Hall where they will be registered and be given their timetable for the day. Their day will consist of normal lessons where their teachers are not striking, and time in the hall with resources and revision material and they will be supervised by senior colleagues.
Students in year 11
Due to the NEU providing dispensation to their members on strike day I am able to confirm that students in year 11 who have the following subjects for lesson 1 on Thursday week B, should come in to school at 8:55am for a 9:00am start. They should go straight to their normal classroom.
- Students who have their German speaking exam during period 1
- Construction
- Food tech
- Computing
- PE
- DT
- Business studies
- German
- RPS
- History
- Sport studies
- APATH
All other year 11 students should come to school at 9:50am and go straight to Refectory 1 to register and get their timetable for the day. They will experience a blend of lessons with their usual teachers and supervised revision time which will be based in the Refectory and supervised by senior colleagues.
Given the close proximity to their exams please ask your child to bring with them appropriate and relevant revision materials to support themselves during their independent learning time.
The refectory will be open as normal and the school day will finish at 3pm.
We are grateful for your support and sorry for the effect that this strike action is having on families and our students. We very much hope that this most recent period of disruption is the last, and that an agreement is reached soon.
