We’re proud to announce our year 10 boys have booked their place in round four of the national cup. Their dogged team display this week got them over the line with a 3-2 win in a game played against Pryland School, Taunton.
The game was played on a tight and small pitch that didn’t suit our attacking players’ style, with their pace and direct play. This initially hurt us and led to Pryland taking the lead.
However, some changes from the touchline to tighten up the game put Archie and Ollie in the middle together, resulting in improved play. We were unfortunate to be 2-1 down by halftime, with Curtis getting his first THS goal on his full debut.
A halftime pep talk encouraged the team to stop giving away free kicks against players who were twice the height of four or five of our players and were having to directly mark them. This game was going to be about small margins and ensuring we didn’t suffer from those two-second lapses in concentration.
Following the break was the most spirited, determined, and best collective display of togetherness I have seen from a group of football players for a very long time. Strikes from Charlie and Archie, and superb game management and positional awareness, saw out what is a win the boys and I are rightly very proud of.
So, into the next round, we go!
The Player’s Player of the Match, as voted by the whole team, was ‘everyone’ – a sign of the good feeling and team spirit within this group.
Mine goes to Owen T, who swept up everything, despite being asked to play in a slightly deeper role than usual.
Well done to all!
Mr Symons
