Yesterday 27 fantastic year 7 scientists took part in the Primary Engineer ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’ competition. We had safety engineer, Simon Craig from DE&S, come in to support with the day. He encouraged the students to research different types of engineers before giving them an overview of what his job involves.
Simon gave the students information about Hurricane Irma and the involvement of engineers in the recovery effort. This helped to provide inspiration for students designing their own inventions which could help with future international disasters. Students came up with a whole range of ideas, from communication, to transport, to distribution of resources. Every single student was engaged with the day and showed excellent creativity.
Each student will have their entry judged by a panel of engineers before receiving a certificate. Last year we had two regional winners so are hoping for success again this year. Certificates should be received in June.
