Mixed football fortunes in the Devon Cup

Two of our teams competed at THS in the Devon Cup with mixed fortunes.

Last week the year 7 team stormed through to the next round with a convincing 8-1 win against Churston Ferrers Grammar School. Credit must go to some of our year 11 boys who helped out, coached and ran the line for this fixture – Cody S, Charlie C, Charlie B, Brayden M, Freddie A, James E amongst others. Captain Matthew S helped to deliver a motivational team talk prior to the game and it clearly worked. The boys did not stop working for each other and were positive in their approach throughout. Goalscorers were: Matthew S x 3, Felix C x2, Joey M, Ollie I, Mason B x1.

Players’ player vote went to Matthew S.

Yesterday our Yr 8 football team hosted Devonport High School for Boys. Despite the opposition hosting multiple academy linked players and previous form indicating they are likely to go far in the competition, THS matched them across the pitch player for player. Devonport took the lead however an Archie B lobbed finish meant at half time the scores were tied. As the game went on it was THS who looked confident at the back and dangerous on the counter attack. Jayden T had a superb game controlling things in defence and Liam B the same up front. It was Liam who came on up top at half time who made another great run and lobbed the keeper which looked like it could have been the winner. Unfortunately Devonport struck two late goals including a debatable last kick of the game winner, not given for offside by the ref (myself).

The boys can hold their heads up high after a great performance. Players player vote went to Callum H.
