Rugby Showdown: Years 8 & 9 Face Off Against Clyst Vales

Sportsfans,

Last night I was privileged to witness a hum-dinger of a game with our Year 8 and Year 9 boys putting on a spectacular, pulsating show in front of a large home crowd.

In an end-to-end game, the lead changed hands on five occasions, twice in the final dying embers of the game.

The game appeared to be ours as stand-out performer Louis B hopped, stepped, jigged and danced his way through several bewildered defenders before diving over the try line with 2 minutes left to play.

An onlooker (maybe a scout) was overheard saying: “That lad has it all, pace, power and above all the heart of a lion and fully deserves to be on the winning side”.

In the final moments of the game, with both teams out on their feet, an uncharacteristic defensive error left the door ajar for the Clyst Vales full back to crash over in the corner and snatch a 22-19 victory; a cruel blow for our boys in blue, but worst things happen at sea!

The score line, however, was largely redundant, as the triumph belonged to our young men who headed down the back lanes full of festive cheer and were not deterred by the number of experienced statesmen missing from this match day XV.

This team created its own excitement and drive as they welcomed onboard several debutants: Oakley B, Clarke F, Charlie M and the star of the day Finley M, who put in an unbelievable defensive performance as he defied all laws of physics as he toppled over anything that came down his channel.

The boys will bounce back from this defeat as we look forward to an action-packed 2024.
