U13 girls football victory at Abbeywood, Bristol

The U13 girls have been victorious in a well battled 5-3 win away to Abbeywood Community School in Bristol. Late absences left us with no subs, and faced playing 11 a side as a team together for the first time.

We started strongly dominating the ball in midfield and playing some clever through balls down the left hand side to Jess who was terrorising their defence with her pace and trickery at every opportunity. Our strong start paid off when Carly lobbed their keeper from 30 yards with a sublime strike.

Our continued strong pressure paid off when good pressing from our attack led to Carly dispossessing the hosts defence to give us a 2-0 lead early on.

The hosts pulled one back on the counter with great play from their attacker getting in behind our defence to slot past Jess to make it 2-1 to us.

Great play from Jess down the left hand side, beating three players and finishing smartly past the keeper gave us a 3-1 lead at half time.

Carly made it four with another great finish last the keeper outside of the box early in the second half, but it didn’t stay 4-1 for long with another great run from the hosts very impressive attacker led to her bringing the score back to 4-2.

An almost identical goal to the first and second, the third for the hosts came shortly later, bringing the score back to 4-3. Definitely something for us to look at and work on in training before the next round.

The message from myself was to dig in and put everything they have into the crucial last 10 minutes, which they did and some finding energy I never imagined they would have to stay in control of the game. Carly’s fourth came with another smart finish to put daylight between the two teams, and a last five minutes of ‘keep ball’ from ourselves gave us the 5-3 win and puts us into the hat in the second round.

Our next round is away to St Swithians in Hampshire, a long trip but we expected this when entering the competition looking to test ourselves against better sides and this will hopefully challenge our incredibly successful U13 girls to their maximum.

Player of the match today is Carly K, who’s running from box to box, and control on the ball when we needed it, as well as faultless finishing was undoubtedly the difference between the two teams.

Well done to the following:
