Volunteering opportunity for students

News of an exciting volunteering opportunity to students!

Libraries Unlimited are looking to recruit around 10 young people aged 14-17 to help them manage the Summer Reading Challenge for 4-11s running from July to September.  The Summer Reading Challenge is a national initiative that encourages children to read 6 books of their choice in the holidays and while they read receive incentives along the way – with a medal and certificate when they finish. Around 600 children usually sign up in Tiverton each year.

Rachel Gee, Senior Supervisor at Tiverton Library, Bampton Library, Tiverton Mobile Library, says: “When young people volunteer with us we tend to pair them up with another person so they have some company while they are doing a shift. There are no minimum hours that they need to commit to, but we do ask them to come and have a training session before they start, and we undertake a risk assessment.”
