Year 6 open evening creates a buzz

More than 500 people attended an open day at Tiverton High School on Tuesday 4th October, seeing the facilities and meeting staff first-hand.

The event gave families of year 6 pupils from the region to see what the school offers, and to take part in a wide range of activities relevant to most subjects across the curriculum. This included activities in core subjects such as English and maths, as well as opportunities to join in the fun with science, design technology, music, art and drama. As well as as solving a ‘whodunnit’ in the food technology kitchens, children were able to 3D print keyrings, play football, tennis and basketball, and witness a real dissection in biology.

There were two talks from Head teacher Sammy Crook. She said: “It was great to have such a buzz around school, from our classrooms and labs to our performing arts and sports facilities. I met with many families keen to learn more about the ambitious plans we have at school, as we prepare young people for the workplaces of the future. I know that many of the jobs they’ll take in years to come haven’t even been invented yet, and at Tiverton High School we’re focused on offering a broad and inspiring education that prepares these young people for whatever the future may hold.”
