Music

The Performing Arts department strives to support students in reaching their potential whether it be in Music, Dance or Drama, regardless of prior experience within the subjects.

As a team of dedicated teachers, passionate about their subjects, we provide a progressive, challenging and supportive education both in the curriculum and extra curriculum that we offer. We are able to support the delivery of the curriculum with outstanding resources, visiting peripatetic teachers and arts practitioners, along with a close working partnership with TCAT Theatre.

At the heart of our department are our talented hard-working students who we provide frequent public performance opportunities for, whether it be whole school musicals, concerts, dance shows or plays, we’re here to help you succeed.

Music - performance, creation and production

The music curriculum at Tiverton High School is carefully designed to provide opportunities for learners to develop and challenge both their academic and creative skills. Students learn through analysing, listening, composing and performing whilst always reflecting upon their learning and development.

The department is very keen for all students to enjoy the experience of learning a musical instrument whilst at Tiverton High School and to lay down a firm grounding for a lifelong love of music and musical instruments. The department also provides a high quality instrumental and vocal tuition service with very experienced qualified professionals visiting the department on a weekly basis.

Music Production is becoming ever more important within the world of music and at Tiverton High School we provide opportunities for students to develop skills in this across all years.

The department enjoys close links through music with Richard Huish and Exeter College, with GCSE music graduates typically going on to excel in a range of post 16 opportunities.
