Emphatic win for the U13 girls in the national cup

The U13 girls have flown through the round of 32 in the national cup against St Swithun’s school in Hampshire with a 8-0 victory in a game that had to be cut short by 15 minutes due to torrential rain leaving the pitch unplayable.

We started strongly with two goals within the first five minutes from Freya H, which was quickly followed up by a Carly K double to put us 4-0 up before the 15 minute mark. The weather meant that moving the ball on the floor disrupted our playing style and had to go more direct, which did limit us and slowed the game down. A strike from distance from Chloe C was deflected in to make it 5-0 to THS at half time.

Both coaches and referee met at half time and decided that it was likely we would need to end the second half early. Jess R and Hana BM came on for us with a brave switch to a back three made to try and get more bodies around the ball where the ball was getting stuck under foot.

This did inevitably happen and the girls kept the relentless pressure up for the remainder which led to Freya getting two more, and a lovely finish from Chloe leaving us with a 8-0 win with 15 minutes scheduled left to play.

Another top quality performance from what really does have the potential to be a record breaking team for us at the high school.

It is so refreshing to see the quantity and quality of female footballers coming through the high school and Tiverton as a community, and all the parents and volunteers who have made this possible deserve massive credit for that.

Freya H wins players player of the match today, and mine is Bluebell C who’s has improved so much recently and her confidence on the ball and ability to play out from the back is crucial to the way we play.

Next up (thankfully) will be a home tie against what is sure to be a team from well up country.
Well done to the following: Jess H, Tayler L, Isla B, Izzy K, Bluebell C, Molly W, Carly K, Chloe C, Niamh P, Freya H, Jess W, Jessica R, Hana BM.

Also, a special mention to Marley C and Harvey S for supporting with officiating on the day as sports leaders.
